| | March 02, 2009 | | Multimedia tourism campaign for Smoky Mountain Convention and Visitor Bureau takes top honors at 44th Annual Knoxville ADDY Awards | Dougherty Tombras and the Tombras Group received 187 ADDY awards, plus Best of Show, Best of Print and Best of Interactive for creative work produced for clients at the 44th Annual ADDY Awards show held February 21, 2009 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Knoxville ADDY Awards is the local market tier of a three-tiered national competition, which is the industry's largest recognition of creativity, originality and strategy in the industry. Gold, Silver, and Bronze ADDY's are awarded in several categories. As the wholly-owned Colorado subsidiary of The Tombras Group, headquartered in Knoxville, Dougherty Tombras work is submitted and judged in Knoxville.
The "Low Impact Vacation" multimedia campaign for Smoky Mountain Convention and Visitors Bureau took Best of Show. The campaign is comprised of a series of activity-oriented print ads that drive readers to lowimpactvacation.com, a microsite that in turn refers visitors to the main booking site for the region. Strategically, "low impact vacations" are eco-friendly alternatives to the typical attraction-based amenities of the Smoky Mountains.
"This represents an emerging strategy, where we can isolate an area of interest for a specific market segment, and keep the user experience focused on learning more about what appeals to them," said Dan Dougherty, President of Dougherty Tombras. "It's an adaptation that uses interactive in a new way. Ads in targeted publications and on television refer interested prospects to an interactive website where we can present the concept in a more dynamic, engaging way. Then, if they wish to take the next step they can do so online."
Twenty-seven awards were received for interactive work, with savemoresouls.com taking home the Best of Interactive. Work was recognized for the Tennessee Department of Tourism, Augusta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Jackson Mountain Homes, TVA, McDonald's, Bristol Motor Speedway, and the Bristol Convention and Visitors Bureau.
