VAIL, Colo.—February 12, 2009— Highline Sports & Entertainment announced today CarniVail, Vail’s annual Mardi Gras festival, will host its first Navan Cocktail Mix-Off Competition Sunday, February 22 from 3-5p.m. at the Tap Room. Vail Valley bartenders and mixologists are invited to submit cocktail recipes with the use of Navan Vanilla Liqueur, Chopin Potato Vodka or 10 Cane Rum for the chance to win CarniVail’s prestigious award. Prior to the Mix-Off Comp, the 10 Cane Crawfish Boil will be held at Eagle’s Nest on Vail Mountain from 12-2p.m. on Sunday.
“Navan’s Cocktail Mix-Off Competition is a fun addition to this year’s CarniVail festivities,” said Missy Johnson of Highline Sports & Entertainment. “It’s a great event to kick-off Vail’s Mardi Gras festival and a fantastic opportunity for the Valley’s bartenders to showoff their cocktail-making skills. The prize package is pretty sweet too.”
Cocktails will be judged by a select CarniVail panel judged on creativity, presentation, taste and integration of Navan, Chopin, or 10 Cane into the beverage. The winning mixologist will receive a prize package from Navan, one night stay at a premier Vail Village hotel and two VIP tickets to CarniVail’s Friday night concert, Jo Jo’s Mardi Gras Band. In addition, the winning cocktail will be featured in the VIP area during the CarniVail Street Parade and Friday’s headliner concert.
“I’m excited to be a part of CarniVail’s cocktail mix-off,” said Josh Schonfeld, Manager of Spruce Saddle Lodge. “It will be fun to get together with other bartenders in the Valley and compete in a friendly competition. I’ve already started to experiment with Navan drink recipes and think I’ve come up with a pretty good one!”
Registration for the Navan Cocktail Mix-Off Comp is free and now available online at www.carnivail.net. All entry forms and recipes must be submitted to Highline Sports & Entertainment no later than Wednesday, February 18. Alcohol, mixers, blenders, glasses and utilities will be provided on-site at the Tap Room on event day. “There are endless possibilities in terms of cocktail recipes with all three of these liquors,” said Greg Schwarts of Highline Sports & Entertainment. “I think bartenders will have a really fun time crafting creative recipes whether they use Navan, Chopin and/or Ten Cane.”
It’s all part of the CarniVail festival, Vail’s annual Mardi Gras festival held Sunday, February 22 – Tuesday, February 24. New this year will be a free concert featuring Jo Jo’s Mardi Gras Band with Widespread Panic’s Jo Jo held Friday, February 27 from 6-9 p.m. at Checkpoint Charlie concert venue in Vail Village.
