January 14, 2009 | | Human Resources Just Got A Lot Easier | The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 requires employers to prepare and maintain a current file of employee injuries and illnesses. To meet the requirement, there are two forms that need to be completed, the OSHA No. 300 Log of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses and the OSHA No. 300A, Summary of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses. In 2002, the OSHA Administration’s revised record-keeping regulations to require most companies with more than ten employees to post the OSHA No. 300A summary report annually.
The OSHA No. 300A is a Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses that should include “recordable” incidents. Examples of “recordable” injuries and/or illnesses are those in which result in death, loss of consciousness, days away from work, restricted work activity or job transfer, medical treatment beyond first aid. The OSHA No. 300A should be posted where notices to employees are customarily posted and must be posted by February 1st and shall remain in place until April 30th. Failure to post the annual summary could result in citations and penalties.
