VAIL, Colo.—November 7, 2008—In its third year, the Dummy Gelunde World Championships will return to the Vail Snow Daze weeklong festival on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 3-5 p.m. Registration opened to the public November 1 and is limited to a field of 25 teams. Dummy Gelunde is a sport of sorts, where teams of one to three people construct snow-riding dummies attached to a pair of skis or a snowboard and launch the handmade contraptions over a giant on-snow jump. Dummies are then judged on distance, air, creativity, takeoff, landing and crowd response. “The Dummy Gelunde World Championships is hands-down the wackiest, most outrageous event in the Snow Daze schedule,” said James Deighan of Highline Sports & Entertainment, the producers of the event. “I’ve seen everything from a dummy toilet to a flying stove to an Army tank compete in this event.” This year, a grand prize of $5,000 - an increase of $3,500 from the 2007 competition - will be awarded to the first place Dummy Gelunde team. Second place will receive $1,500 and third place will receive $750, totally an overall cash purse of $7,250. “Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to have fun building a creative snow-riding craft and launching it down Vail Mountain, but it’s also a great chance to win a huge chunk of cash,” explains Jeff Brausch of Highline Sports & Entertainment. The Dummy Gelunde World Championships will be held at Golden Peak on Vail Mountain Saturday, December 13 from 3-5 p.m., with viewing and judging taking place from 1-3 p.m. Entry cost is only $50 per team and is limited to a field of 25 teams on a first come, first served policy. Online registration, as well as detailed event information including rules is available at www.vailsnowdaze.com.
