Cyclists will test their physical endurance as they ride 157 miles through the glorious Colorado Rockies over three days, pushing themselves up Vail Pass, gliding down the bike path from Copper Mountain to Dillon and then climbing up Fremont Pass and crossing the finish line on Monday in Leadville.

| | Tue, 22 Jul 2008 12:11:53 -0400 | | On Wednesday, July 23 come out and support your local bikers attack a New Start, Finish Area and Modified Route on Vail Mountain.The 2008 Vail & Beaver Creek Mountain Bike Series continues this week with the fifth race of the series taking place Wednesday (July 23rd) evening on Vail Mountain. The Vail Grind race is a classic single and double-track loop format that will include grinding climbs gaining from 1,763 feet to 3,873 feet followed by a fast downhill. Distances will range from two miles for younger riders, seven miles for juniors or up to 16 miles for more experienced riders. Work on Vail Mountain's snow making water lines is underway causing the route to be modified, including the start and finish area. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. at the start area, which has been changed to the Vista Bahn in Vail Village. The course will be monitored by Vail Mountain Ski Patrol and Steadman Hawkins representatives who will be on site to insure the safety of the racers. Racers should park in the Vail Village parking structure. Youth racers will begin at 5 p.m. followed by adult racers at 5:45 p.m. The Vail Grind post-party will be held at the Tap Room in Vail Village. The race series concludes Aug. 6 with the Beaver Creek Blast on Beaver Creek Mountain. Those who attend the after parties at each race will be entered into an end-of-season grand prize drawing for a Rocky Mountain Bicycles frame. Three bicycle frames will be given away including one youth, one male and one female frame. The race series is a Vail Recreation District (VRD) program. On Wednesday, you'll have the opportunity to scratch your own designs into sand-based, bell-shaped molds under the guidance of metal artist Mark Guilbeau. This special concert features the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20 and Copland's Third Symphony, which uses "Fanfare for the Common Man" as the theme for the last movement. The NRO is proud to have Colorado Symphony Orchestra Music Director Jeffrey Kahane as guest conductor and soloist.
The NRO Chamber Orchestra will also play on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:30 PM in the Riverwalk Center, Breckenridge.
Enjoy a night of chamber music featuring talented soloists—Nancy Kim, cello; Erin Zehngut, violin; Yaocheng Yu, flute; Grace Johnson, oboe; Brad Whitfield, clarinet; Miles Maner, bassoon; Katie Kirkpatrick, horn; Doug Renau, trumpet; and Joel Brown, trombone. (Limited to 18 participants) The seminar will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be lead by Vail Golf Club Head Professional Jeanne Sutherland who has taught Champions Tour players, Ladies Professional Golf Association members, National College Athletic Association All Americans and Junior All Americans. Instructors joining Sutherland include, Jennifer Orr, a Titleist certified golf fitness instructor and licensed physical therapist and John Elliot, Ph.D., who currently works with elite performers in the business world, professional baseball and basketball players and the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour. According to Sutherland, this is this summer's only all-day seminar the golf club will offer and it will provide players with more in-depth, one-on-one instruction than a typical golf lesson.
The Vail Golf Club, which is operated by the VRD, is nestled at the base of the Gore Mountain Range and presents golfers with a unique 18-hole, par 71 course at 8,200 feet elevation.
